About Beaver Dam | Urgent Care

At Fast Pace Health, we know that accidents and illnesses can happen at any time. That is why we staff a team of highly qualified professionals to help offer fast, compassionate, and cost-effective care for you and your family. That’s why our Beaver Dam, KY walk-in urgent care clinic is conveniently located on North Main St.

Get Care When It Can’t Wait

Urgent care is an ideal option when you don’t have time to wait. The great news is, they’re widely accessible to all.

Urgent care provides a great alternative to far-off primary care appointments. Often, long waits make same-day access to medical care challenging. That, coupled with no after-hours care, make primary care difficult during those late nights.

Urgent care centers also solve the issue of the long hospital emergency department waits. While great for life-threatening emergencies, hospital emergency rooms are often bogged down and too understaffed to treat minor scrapes and mild illnesses.

Urgent care centers help lessen this load.

Great for Those in Rural Areas

Urgent care is extremely important for those living in rural areas. With our local urgent care centers, we seek to provide excellent urgent care, education, and accessibility for those who may be far from hospitals.

Urgent Care: What We Treat

Urgent care centers are set up to handle many injuries, accidents, and illnesses. Let’s take a look at some of the most common conditions that could bring you through our front doors.

Cold, Cough, and Flu

One of the biggest medical reasons for missing school and work is the common cold. It can have numerous viral causes — over 200!

Cold symptoms bring millions of people into their primary care professional’s office annually. Unfortunately, far-off appointment times can make dealing with cold symptoms quite a drag.

This includes the stuffy or runny nose, sneezing, and more. But what about fevers? Yep, urgent care can treat those too. Many times, cold and flu symptoms can overlap. But fevers are a tell-tale sign of the flu, along with those body aches and fatigue.

Thankfully, urgent care is set up to handle the various symptoms of the common cold.

Set Up To Handle Strep and Sore Throats

Strep throat is another common primary care visit. For many, this bacterial infection can make the throat feel sore and scratchy. Thankfully, it usually isn’t too serious if treated quickly.

In some cases, strep throat can involve pain in swallowing as well as swollen lymph nodes and tonsils. It is usually at this point that people reach out for help.

The good news is that most cases of strep throat are treated with antibiotics. Our urgent care providers are well-equipped to help.

We Can Treat Most Allergic Reactions

Allergies are one of the most common medical conditions. In fact, allergies affect more than 50 million people every year and is the sixth leading cause of chronic illness.

Seasonal allergies also drive a lot of people to seek help. The itchy, watery eyes, the runny nose, and the endless sneezing can take its toll.

But allergies don’t start and stop with pollen. Allergies to food and various insect bites are also common. Thankfully, urgent care is set up to handle most mild to moderate allergic reactions.

However, a serious allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis requires immediate emergency medical attention.

Urgent Care for Various Infections

Ear infections, pink eye, and urinary tract infections (UTI) make up a large portion of emergency room visits. Ear infections are extremely common among pediatric patients.

Conjunctivitis, or pink eye, is a close second. This irritating eye condition is marked by redness, itchiness, and swelling. UTIs are another common infection, marked by pain and swelling upon urination.

In most cases, these infections are completely treatable. But, who’s got time to wait when infections are making your day miserable?

Don’t worry, our urgent care centers have you covered, especially when those emergency department lines or primary care appointments are too long or too far away.

Burns, Scrapes, and Broken Bones

Hospital emergency room departments have traditionally been the place to seek care for burns, scrapes and cuts, and broken bones. Thanks to urgent care centers, that burden has been lifted.

Mild burns are classified in two ways: First degree burns anywhere on the body, or second-degree burns less than 2 to 3 inches in circumference. Urgent care is well-equipped to handle this degree of burns.

Cuts and scrapes are a normal part of life. In many cases, they can be handled without much medical intervention, but when they do, choose urgent care before taking a trip to the ER.

Believe it or not, urgent care is also set up to treat broken bones, sprains, and more.

Of course, the severity of the injury does matter. Major burns, severe lacerations, and compound fractures require immediate emergency medical attention.

Urgent Care: The List Goes On

The items above are just a few medical conditions that bring people into our urgent care centers. Some other common reasons for urgent care visits include, but are not limited to:

  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting
  • Severe headaches or migraines
  • Various sports injuries
Urgent Care vs. Emergency Room: When To Go

Urgent care provides a much-needed alternative to hospital emergency rooms. But, there is one major difference between urgent care and ERs — i.e. triage of patients.

ERs treat patients based on the severity of injury or illness. What could that mean for you? Well, it could mean you’re stuck waiting for hours and hours inside the ER as compared to 15 minutes at most of our urgent care centers.

While the injury or illness may certainly be an emergency for you, it may take a back seat to other patients in the ER. But this is where urgent care centers shine.

While ER departments certainly have more access to more screening exams (e.g. CT scans), they can take hours, if not days, to receive.

Reasons to visit the ER include the following:

  • Seizures
  • Major trauma and bleeding
  • Severe chest pains
  • OB complications
  • Life-threatening conditions

ERs Could Be More Costly

In most cases, emergency departments are much more costly than urgent care centers. This could have quite an effect on your pocketbook. Thankfully, Fast Pace Health accepts most private insurance plans. We also offer self-pay options for those without insurance.
